    First of all “stomach” is the right term only if it refers to the organ. If you refer to the abdominal area, that’s an entirely different story as it can mean a completely different thing depending on the exact area. I have a similar problem for years now, i went to numerous doctors and nobody gave me an answer or a treatment that works. I did two MRI’s and several abdominal scans, blood tests are good. My pain is in lower abdominal area and irradiate to the lower back. It happens after standing up for more than 30 minutes. Is doesn’t appear all the time but quite often, and sitting down doesn’t help, only laying down. The last dr I saw suggested it might me because I have some nerves pinched, he prescribed Amitryptiline which I hesitated to use as it can make you dependent. Also, a nurse suggested it might be endometriosis but nobody investigated me for this. It’s very annoying but you should keep going to the doctor until you get an answer. It seems like finding the right doctor it’s a lottery, but here you cannot get any answer, just some suggestions.

    There is not enough information in the question to give a really informed answer. This is one reason why you should see a physician and have that person take a history (question you carefully about your symptoms) and do a physical examination.

    Were you to come to my office I would immediately think of muscular pain in the abdominal wall and pinched nerves in the abdomen (Dr. Kim and Ms. Taylor’s answers seem to address this), as well as gas in the gut somewhere, constipation, hernia of the abdominal wall and other possibilities.

    For instance, was this a one-off episode or does it recur? If recurrent, how long has this gone on? Where exactly is the pain? How long does it last? Does it radiate, that is to you feel it anywhere else, like the mid back or shoulder? Don’t try to answer these questions here, you need to see a physician if this is a recurring episode.

    This won’t be a very scientific answer and I can only tell you that I’ve had the same experience. I have a chair that when I sit in it I tend to slouch, especially after eating, and when I sit up straight I have a discomfort in the area below my ribcage.

    To me it is because when I’m slouching I am compressing tissue, my stomach, and also my intercostal (muscles between ribs) are being crunched in a position that isn’t normal for them. Pain can radiate from an area to another area.

    So in simple terms, my posture is causing the discomfort and if I don’t slouch, I don’t have the problem.

    Most likely no problem there. Simply stop eating spicy and fried food. Cut on the sugar too. Eat oatmeal (no sugar, even the artificial one), green veggies (no tomatoes), boiled or steamed fish, boiled beef, boiled chicken (and chicken broth), boiled potatoes. Eat butter too (good quality one with at least 85% fat). Eat that for at least two months and your symptoms will most likely disappear. I went through the same thing back when I was 21. I ate the food above and I was cured for life. Today, I study physiology, anatomy, and pathology semi-professionally. I like the subject and I discover new things every day. I didn’t realize before how much lies we hear on TV and in commercials everyday.

    ,No-one, no-one, (physicians included,)who are ethical and don’t understand physiology, kinesiology, detailed anatomy of the abdomen and spine will or should be making diagnoses and/ or suggesting treatment without a proper history and physical. It’s dangerous. Without even scratching my head I can think of 5 possible causes of your problem each with a different treatment

    Go see your own doctor. Don’t ask a forum where people, however well meaning, are not qualified to answer your question

    I found the solution, for if this happens to anyone else. Just gradually sit up straighter. Just move a little bit at a time, and when the pain goes away move a little bit more until you are up straight. I don’t know why it happens though.

    Go see a DR. That is the only Answer anyone with common sense can give. Let them run a few test to find out what causes it. Even a Dr. on here would say seek Professional help. It could be nothing but being bloated with gas to an ulcer either way see your DR that is the biggest favor you can do for your body.

    Hi there, I’m not sure. Do you have acid reflux or heartburn because those are similar symptoms if you have GERD/Acid reflux disease. I had pain every day, doesn’t matter my body posture so maybe it’s good to see a doctor. Try drinking some licorice or camomile tea and you might feel better

    One possibility could be that you have very bad posture. It can create problems thruout one`s entire body. For example, if you sit slouched a lot, you`re putting unwanted stress on your visceral ( intestines ) area, thereby allowing for tummy problems. Think about it

    Check your rectus abdomins muscle attachments to your lower ribs.

    When they are pulled, you have to be in crouched position, and will hurt to straighten up.
